Stop Silent® SL13

Prior to Installation - Stop Silent® SL13 Checklist

1.Stop Silent® SL13 Installation in pipes

Stop Silent® SL13 is the only backwater valve that can be force-fitted into a pipe. Installation is possible from both sides (with the flow or against the flow) SL13 is usually installed horizontally (at least 2% slope) in wastewater pipes. Vertical installation is possible in rainwater pipes.

2. Minimum gradient for use in waste water

  • A constant gradient of 2% upstream of the valve is required for wastewater and domestic wastewater pipes!
  • A constant gradient of 1% is sufficient for rainwater.

3. Inner diameter of the pipe to be secured

It is important to measure the pipe so that Stop Silent® SL13 can be installed with a tight fit.

A photo of the pipe provides clarity about the situation behind the pipe opening. For example, a pipe reduction, incrustations or a pipe bend can be identified.

  • Oval of the pipe: Sewage pipes often become oval during installation due to the compaction of the soil. It is therefore important to measure both the vertical and horizontal internal diameter.
  • The clamping range of the SL13 is limited, for intermediate dimensions order an adapter for the measured pipe inside diameter (for example pipe iØ140)

4. Pipe access

In the inspection / inspection chamber either in the outlet or in the inlet
In the outlet, at least the cylindrical section of the valve must be inserted into the pipe to ensure force-fit clamping.

In the inlet, the entire valve (see overall length) must be inserted so that the diaphragm can seal.

At the beginning or end of a pipe (e.g. elevated):

In an accessible straight section of pipe, cut out a section of pipe approximately the length of the valve, insert the valve and clamp it. Insert the pipe section and install using two pipe couplings. The cut-out pipe can also be replaced by a Plexiglas pipe so that the function can be checked.

5. Installation in the inspection chamber

If no large quantities of rainwater flow into the inspection chamber, Stop Silent® SL13 should be installed in the outlet. During the backwater, no more water can flow out and the inspection chamber thus serves as a reservoir for its own water. Otherwise, we recommend installing Stop Silent® SL13 in the pipe with the area to be protected (basement).

If there are several inlets into the inspection chamber with different gradients (<2%), it is recommended to additionally secure the inlet with the lowest gradient with a Stop Silent® SL13. This prevents the build-up of dirt particles in this area as well as unpleasant odors.

The recommended minimum height below floor level is 30 cm (overflow edge). This guarantees a higher drainage capacity.

Stop Silent® SL13 must be inserted wet in the lower clamping area, but soapy water can help. no grease, no oil!

6. house internal sewage system

The house drainage system must be analyzed. This means that the rainwater and domestic wastewater pipes must be known. An unrecognized T-piece that leads rainwater into the domestic sewage pipe can flow unhindered into the cellar, even if a backflow protection secures the pipe against the sewage system.

In the event of a backflow, Stop Silent® SL13 prevents the backflow, but no water can flow out! It is important that no large quantities of water (rainwater or domestic wastewater) flow into this area, as the reservoir volume is limited. If this area is exhausted, water will escape at the next overflow edge (e.g. floor drain, shower, toilet, etc.).

Drainage pipes that are rarely used should be checked separately during commissioning, as they have a low degree of self-cleaning.
