Stop Silent® SL13

Our odor-tight solution for wastewater technology

Even in the most comfortable house or apartment, no one would stay for long if there was no trap to keep the smell out of the sewer system.

There is a trap between the sewer connection and the drain of all washbasins, sinks, showers, toilets and bathtubs, floor drains and condensation drains, preventing the smell of sewer in living rooms, bathrooms and kitchens.

But what happens if the siphon has too little or no water due to drying out? As described at the beginning, it starts to stink.
Our Stop Silent® SL13 backflow flap will solve this problem quickly and reliably.
The installation location in this situation would be in the cellar shaft.

In the basic closed position, the SL13 prevents sewer gases and foul odors from rising from the basement.
The odor problem is stopped permanently.

Did you know...

If a property is located on a slope, it is more likely to be plagued by unpleasant odors as the chimney effect is even more pronounced there.

Odor nuisance on roof terrace due to pipe ventilation of the downpipe

This problem is more common than you might think. Unpleasant odors travel from the sewer system in the basement to the ventilation pipe on the roof.

Then it can stink up the house or apartment and the living atmosphere can be considerably impaired. The odors emanating from freely ventilated downpipes in front of the skylight, on the roof terrace or next to the dormer are similarly disturbing.

To permanently prevent the chimney effect, we recommend installing our Stop Silent® SL13 backwater flap. As the SL13 is always closed in its basic position, it prevents the chimney effect and also the increase in unpleasant odors. If rainwater gets into the vent pipe, it can drain away unhindered. Once the liquids have passed through the flap, the membrane closes again. The odor is permanently stopped. The installation location in this situation is on the upper floor in the ventilation pipe.

How our odor trap works

The membrane of our Stop Silent® SL13 backflow preventer is always closed in its initial position after installation. The backflow flap is clamped into the pipe by means of an expander clamp.

When wastewater from the toilet, bathroom, etc. hits the closed membrane, the accumulating wastewater (up to about the pipe filling level) exerts pressure on the membrane, causing the sealing lip to open upwards. This allows the wastewater to flow out unhindered. If the flow of wastewater stops, the sealing lip closes again and closes the backflow flap. In the event of a backflow from the sewer system, the sealing lip of the rubber membrane is pressed downwards against the pipe wall and the valve is force-locked. This prevents the backed-up sewage from entering the cellar or lower storeys.

The city of Bern trusts Stop Silent® SL13

This illustration shows a large Stop Silent® SL13 backflow flap

The SL13 has been in use as an odor trap in the city of Bern's pipeline network since 2013.

This backwater valve with a DN800 diameter was installed in a through pipe of the Bern sewer system to prevent the odor movement of the gas in the sewer system.

Since its installation in 2013, the odor problem has been resolved.
