Stop Silent® SL13 frog flap - the ecological protection measure

Conflicts over the use of water catchments are increasing and alternative sites are becoming scarce. Water suppliers are finding it increasingly difficult to obtain clean drinking water.
Groundwater, as the most important resource, needs better protection.

Amphibians and reptiles are the most endangered species groups in Switzerland. This is also due to their way of life: They migrate back and forth between different habitats throughout the year. They are exposed to numerous dangers along the way.

For example, they get into drainage pipes in the water or sewage system. These pipes have a strong trapping effect for these animals. The damp microclimate of the pipe has a fundamental attracting effect on them and can mean their death.

As all amphibian species are protected under federal law, it is important to mitigate these dangers and traps as far as possible. Lasso Technik AG has the solution for amphibians, reptiles and small creatures with the multifunctional SL13 backwater & amphibian flap. It preserves the quality of drinking water and protects the lives of animals in equal measure.

Out into nature

No additional foundation or base is required for the run-out into nature. Our system can be installed without any additional effort, tools or machinery. A barrier is required to prevent amphibians, reptiles and insects as well as leaves and branches from entering the drinking water.

The guidelines of the Water Protection Ordinance of October 28, 1998 state that Discharge structures must not impair the natural appearance of the watercourse. As our backwater flap can be attached without any structural measures, it does not detract from the appearance and can be installed in just a few minutes. Access is protected against the entry of amphibians, reptiles and microorganisms. In the event of flooding, the SL13 also protects against the entry of fish. The SL 13 backwater flap is used for outlets into nature and bodies of water, but also in reptile protection areas

Did you know that our flap also works under water?

Protection of water reservoirs

In Switzerland, drinking water straight from the tap is a matter of course. Strict water quality requirements apply to ensure that this remains the case.
The Federal Office of Public Health requires drinking water to be tasteless, odorless and free of harmful microorganisms or chemicals.

Our valve is also used in Switzerland's water reservoirs - namely as an amphibian, reptile and insect barrier. The SL13 reliably closes off access for these animals. Such measures prevent these animals as well as branches and leaves from entering the reservoirs and contaminating the water. This means that our drinking water requires less treatment by the water supplier.

As an ecological protection measure, our backwater flap plays a decisive role in maintaining water quality and preventing possible damage caused by animals settling in the reservoirs.

  • a noise-reducing flap

How our frog and amphibian flap SL13 works

The membrane of the Stop Silent® SL13 backflow preventer is closed as standard after installation. With the help of the expander clamp, the backflow flap is force-fitted into the pipe.

As soon as water hits the closed membrane, pressure builds up, opening the sealing lip upwards and allowing the water to flow out unhindered. As soon as the flow of water stops, the sealing lip automatically reattaches and closes the backflow flap.

In the event of a backflow, the sealing lip of the rubber membrane is pressed down against the pipe wall, closing the pipe in a force-fit manner. This effectively prevents backed-up waste water from entering the drinking water structure to be protected.
